Just a bit of update...
Got the new TomTom One (2009 map). Comes with a new suction holder that's pretty good. It folds into the back of the unit.
The suction cup doesn't mount well on the plastic base. So, I cut off a section of the carpet base, and superglued a piece of glass (from a small photoframe).
