$250 for genuine Mazda synthetic oil.... gee I'm glad I bought some full Synthetic oil from Supercheap auto for $30 as it was on Special. I wonder what oil the genuine Mazda oil is.... cause as far as I know Mazda doesn't make oil.

Getting my car serviced at Tunehouse on Friday.... we'll see how much they charge me.... I think I read on their website they dyno tune your car as part of the service.... i'll let you guys know if they are any good.

Ok I've got my service done at the Tunehouse... definately a good job done.

For the Service alone it cost $134.00 and I supplied my own oil.

But they did offer other things that would of lifted the price to around $400 but I only got the throttle body cleaned and re-calibrated and my gearbox oil topped up which brought the price up to just under $200.

Anyway I'm happy...

They also said they suggest a 5000km or 3month service intervals but they said if we prefer the 10000 6 month service intervals they'll just set their reminders to post out every 6 months instead of 3 months.... not that this is a big deal but its nice that they are giving us the choice I thought.

There's nothing wrong with having your service done elsewhere, absolutely nothing like the dealer is trying to tell you. However, you do get an upper hand for your argument when your car actually fails, they would have no reason to refuse to fix it under warranty, and sometimes, outside warranty.

John Newell always charges extra for wheel rotation, so I simply go somewhere else for my tyre care. Apart from that, they haven't missed a beat on my services, so I'm quite happy about them. One more bad thing about them, is they charge quite much for loan car, which is $45, but offset by their slightly cheaper service.

BTW, dealers do accept haggling even for service cost, and would give you a bit more discount if you are loyal to them.

Ok car's been serviced, runs fine, no problems at all and was back to me when I asked for it to be. Got it done at Eagers Mazda and their service has been good - they even called me today to see if everything was fine and that they would also send a survey out to make sure I'm happy with their service. They also rotated the wheels but I elected not to get the balance done - I will take it to a wheel and tyre place to get a full alignment and balance later.

I forgot the loyalty card I had when I bought it so the guy gave me a new one and punched off the service for me. They seem fairly concerned with keeping me happy so as long as they keep doing whatever it is they're doing I'll go there.

Mazda don't "make" oil but they do have a particular synthetic oil that was developed by either Mobil or Castrol specifically for use in vehicles sold by Mazda Australia. From what I remember you can't buy this oil yourself but I could be wrong. The oil itself wasn't $250 - it was only an extra $20-25 on top of the base service price. The bog standard service oil is a mineral oil and unless I drive a rotary, I'm probably better off with synthetic anyway (synthetic is almost better in every way over mineral).

well full synthetic oil for Mobile and Castrol go for about $50- $60 so if its only $20-$25 from mazda your either getting a good deal or they aren't putting in the oil they say they are.

I know I'm a little biased against dealer services because I always seem to think their personal service to make me happy isn't completely genuine. Like putting on a happy face so your looking in the direction they want you to while behind you they are screwing you every which way they can.

But again I shouldn't be pushing this stereotype against only dealerships as you can get that from almost any business these days. So really its up to who wants my business the most.

And I like the idea of someone working on my car that doesn't just think the standard is good enough. Any tweak that can get more out of my car is worth having done. Especially if its going to cost me less than just having the standard done by someone who just expects me to take my car to them just cause I bought the car off them.

Mazda oil is a fully synthetic oil which has a rating of 5w40. It is made by Castrol and can be bought from mazda for $90 OR you can buy a 20L drum for 200 bucks from castrol straight =]

I change my oil VERY often[every 5k] and i have HEAPS of honda high performance oil [10w30] from my last car. I bought bulk =P. I dont see the point in fully synthetic. =S

No no the oil is $25 _extra_ on top of the price for the regular oil - it says on the invoice that the oil is $90 so that makes sense when you read what Dark Authority said.

It is hard to find good service agents, dodgy little small operations are a constant source of headaches, my dad had his commodore royally screwed by a small garage attached to a Shell servo. Never again. I had a good old school mechanic many moons ago but he has since retired and I've never found anyone as good. While the Mazda is still under warranty I'm gonna go to dealers - if they screw something up or I need to make a warranty claim there's gonna be a lot less hassle. I've have heard of people having their warranty denied after its discovered that their 'local bloke' has been using dodgy non-genuine parts or not doing the service the way it should be done.

10000 service in Queensland

Hi,
I had the 10000 service last Saturday by my local dealer and it cost $205 including the oil and a full wheel balance and tire rotation.
They even added washer bottle fluid.
Not to bad.
