I'm so jealous!!

Great work on this, you have done well

I wanted to do this and then I could do away with any hardware I needed for a decent sound system, eg. Equalizer and adjustments with volume of subwoofer

Hi me_ashman,

Didnt need to enter any codes.

Are you ordering the screen from china(Jessica) or ebay?

What device are you going to use for audio input?

You can route the VGA & USB cables behind the back of map compartment along, I've also connected the three video inputs (rear camera in the future).

The hard bit is actually pulling the cup holder out, took me several attempts before I finally got the bugger.

There are some examples about removing the HU with images, that was my initial reference point, have a search on the mazda forums.

By the way, this is my next purchase In Dash PC - GROM PC adapter for Mazda 02+, its basically a replacement for the ipod autolink that I'm using for my audio input, the car2pc allows you to receive the commands from the steering wheel to the PC, so in my case Roadrunner will change tracks in windows, etc. without me touching the screen.

Its taken me a few months to get everything setup, I would recommend a M2-ATX or M3-ATX psu power supply (or use a laptop and build a computer later)

Thanks AMZ, I'm looking at the whole kit pc like whats on ebay but I'll talk to Kevin from I-pc tomorrow. The monitor will come from either Kevin again or mpegcar in the US. Reading the PDF from Mpegcar it looks like the loom goes inline with the stereo power loom to input the power for the screen maybe? Which would mean the head unit needs to be disconnected from power. Then it would need some code to enable it again?

Using the Car2PC unit do you lose the functions on the steering wheel to the existing 6 stacker? The way I read the instructions the steering wheel control will only do the car pc afterwards and make the 6 stacker redundant.

nope havent got that model (Holux), off my head I think the baud rate is 9600 but it could be 4800 without checking.

Is the GPS in clear view of the sky (it may take a few minutes to lock), also check to make sure its receiving GPS data (check the logger).

Good Luck

Actually mate, how are your Koni FSD shocks?

Thanks bybyte but hate to say it...but your prices are way out dude. Even with the great exchange rate we have atm yours are nearly twice what I-pc are offering.

Got mine up and running with help from Me_Ashman. Holygrail, laptop, gps, auxmod and 2600 tunes!!! awesome, just need to wire a restart button from an old PC to my spacebar to bring it out of standbymode...

Next projects are reverse camera - sitting on my desk - see other thread and wireless broadband - thinking dodo unless anyone else has a better idea?

CAPPC - Cheaper to import - i can beat IPC from a US based supplier - warranty is only concern, IPC can be VERY slow to react and order stuff.

It wont come out of standby via the screen? There must be a setup somewhere. I agree with the better price from the US I could have saved easily $100 on the PC but the screen was a good price from him. I suspect warranty would be the same as I-PC. Though to Kevin's defence he answered my question straight away and didnt stuff around with my problem.

James I think I'm gonna mount the camera under the bumper to make it easier to run the cables. Glad to hear you solved the dropout problem.

Time - I'm not sure that anyone has replaced the double din with a pc yet (I may be wrong) most of us are running laptops/pcs/caputers either under passenger seat or in the boot.

Ash/anyone else out there - is it possible to use the touchscreen to bring pc out of standby?

good question mate I'll do some playing tonight and let you know.

But for now try this.

1. Go to Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager
2. Click on Mice and other pointing devices->USB Touchscreen Controller
3. Click on the Power Management Tab
4. CHECK "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby"
5. Click on OK

See if that works and let me know.

Not bad for $500. I built a Shuttle SN68SG2 barebones. Built that up for the car. It was more expensive going this way due to the fact I had to install a car invertor to power it. system has 2gb of ram 400gb sata HDD AMD 4000+ processor, DVD burner. The system is currently running Windows Vista Home Premium. for the Media centre keyboard to run.
