| | | Are you looking to just copy the footage straight onto DVD ?
Or do you want to edit and cut out things ect. ? Just to copy onto DVD:
My folks have a JVC hard disk camcorder
I tired the software and alot of other things, none of which were great
I turns out that this particular series have a plug and play DVD burner for the camera .. so you can select what chapters you want to burn onto this portable DVD recorder/burner
My Dad aint great with computers etc. and he can even use this
I would look around and see if they make something for the sony aswell .. im sure they would
EDIT:
Found one .. not too sure if it supports you camera though: http://www.sony.com.au/dis/catalog/p...tegoryId=34505
$250 from sony.com.au Quote: |
The MC5 allows easy file copying from AVCHD (HDD / MS) Handycam to Disc. Simply connect the Handycam to DVDirect via USB and follow the prompts! DVDirect even supports the "One Touch Disc Burn" Handycam function.
| If its to edit and then export:
Adobe Premier or Final Cut Pro .. although they arent the easiest programs to use

| | | | If you have the space/multiple HDD, you could copy the files onto one HDD, then use something free like VirtualDub to create raw/uncompressed AVI files, then load these into one of the DVD creation suites (Nero/Ulead), which will do the MPEG-2 conversion and chapterising, etc for you.

| | | | When it comes to doing the DVD editing stage, do a search for bitrate calculator (I actually downloaded the html/java page to run locally), which will work out what bitrates to set the video/audio at for the video duration.

| | | | i'm incline to agree with Rustycaps using VirtualDub for the converting and joining of some of the files but i'd also look at ImgBurn(freeware) for the burning to DVD(MPEG2) to be able to play on a DVD Player, or if you just want to back up the files then it allow's burning to a DVD(either 4.7gig or 8.5gig)

| | | | 8 is fine. 9 is dodgy. That's Nero. You could always use Adobe Premier or similar to edit the video but they are more advanced.

| | | | I bought a sony 60 gig hd / mem card video cam. Have not done any recording worth editing or burning yet though, should get some footage (is it still called footage on digital media) at the wedding.

| | | | im not sure about the sr8, but the sony sr12 i bought came with a dock with a button you could press to automatically use the inbuilt sony software to burn particular clips to a dvd.
if you want to edit it though, as per above buy a program. i use final cut pro. fantastic non-linear editing suite. but it is all relative to what you use it for: the program itself costs more than what you paid for the camera...and you need a mac. you'd pay many times more than what you paid for the camera to get a decent system. If its just for putting some footage on dvds...then movie make will do the job..albeit a bit roughly. |
