| | | | My MPS 6 v EVO IX Bloody hell..
how about this.
i was driving on a dirt road in south africa and i had to pass an evo 9 pulled out onto the bush shrubs, went round an elephant and still had the jump on the evo.
Cmon!
What i don't get is it's fine for someone to ask what type of intake to get, even though it's been discussed 4000 times before, but its not ok to tell true results of modified vehicles against other makes.
No Problem, i'll just keep to the bland taste. Won't try and jazz it up a bit.
One more thing, the Evo wasn't stock!

| | | | well, from what i hear that Evo has a very big turbo on the 4 cylinder engine & hence very big lag, bit of small engine big turbo syndrome. takes some effort keeping it up in the high rev range to keep the turbo going when in daily driving type roads so it wouldn't surprise me that in some conditions an MPS6 which has a wider spread of it's torque through the rev range could whoop it.
oh yeh, this thread will undoubtably be removed i reckon..

| | | | If it is the big turbo, little motor case with the evo, then the "ahem....private road" runs they were doing upwards of 120 would suit the evo down to the ground, and yes Im sure this thread wont last long at all. |

| | | Great story, you must have felt so proud of your beast and even more proud when he recognised it was an MPS, you probably had a proud parent grin on your face when u replied that it was Its a damn great car we have the privilege of driving and everyday I get in it Im reminded of that and it just makes me smile

| | | | my mate has an evo 9 and we've been on a couple of cruises & found there to be not much difference between the two..
the main difference comes on tight mountain roads where his 4wd helps out a bit though..

As said above, the engine is good just needs some work done to unleash the beast within it.

| | | Isnt it strange, lately on the private roads that i normally cruise on, there are many Cooper S Works cars that try to tailgate me. Has anyone noticed these annoying hairdressers? Pfft should find their own private roads to cruise around on |

| | | | No No No,
A stock EVO will smash a stock MPS6. Guaranteed!
As you can see my MPS is a little "off it's head" and it was quicker than this particular evo9(which was modded), only when I managed to go around the elephant.
When we came up to the flamingo's and had to do a hairpin right, the evo was pulling away LOL
Correct me if im wrong, but my impression is that the Evo 9 /10 is the quickest out of the bunch(sti/mps/evo/200sx/350z)? hence why im using it as a bench mark!

| | | Must be time to wheel this data out again.......
The data confirms what we all know, the MPS doesn't run out of puff in the higher gears like other cars. Look at how the Boganmobile dies in the arse! The data is a couple of years old now but I can confirm the latest HSV GTS still can't keep up. |

| | | | Ahh, the good old bogan mobile,
Those figures cant possibly have been obtained from Wheels mag though kmh, last time I read a copy of wheels that showed both the MPS & HSV 3rd gear 80-120 times the MPS (3) was over 4 seconds, and the HSV was in the low 3s, although a previous copy of wheels had the MPS in the low 3's, cant have one of these little jap 4 cyl cars beating one of our precious home grown v8's.
I have heard that on a rolling start, (and only on private roads) a stock 3mps, will nudge ahead of a stock evo9 by the mid 100's, I believe it is about a car length by 160, so very little between the two. |

| | | | Not strictly a fair comparo, 80-120 are the MPS's bread and butter. Most of the cars listed above would be quicker from a standing start.
Combination of small blower, direct injection and gear ratios make the MPS really shine in 80-120's, gotta remember that HSV's can easily do 80 in 2nd gear! |

| | | | All i know is that i was pulling away....
And to be honest, I was very suprised because I had the perception in my head that evo's were untouchable....
I remember running a 300kw GTS V8 on a private road(somewhere in South East China) in my wrx(has a computer+exhaust and did 13.2 1/4 mile) and had 3 car lengths at the end of 4th gear.
Then lined him up 2 more times, once rolling and once stand still and had him both times. I must admit, at the end of 2nd i had like 4 car lengths, then he pulled one back and probably would have had me, but lets be honest... These private roads aren't that long!

| | | | My old V8 Group A did 80 in first gear with a tall 2.54 first gear ratio and equally tall 3.08 diff. Those were the days, 400hp with 1300kg, it's a shame you can't buy that kind of performance any more. |

IMO I don't really worry about which car is faster (unless I take it to the drags one day) but when doing a country run and have to pass a line of 2 or 3 road trains, the in gear acceleration is important and outstanding (coz you don't want to be on the wrong side of the road for too long) and of course Mazda's are better to look at than most other cars out there, so my 6 will be well loved into it's dotage.

| | | | awww guess i'm the only supporter for the evo haha
but then i did choose between the e9 or mps6 back then....
I guess tuned, it depends how tuned each one is.
Wonder if anyone has seen the starlet pwning a r34 in japan...... thats a very good example lolz
as for which one is faster.... i guess it depends on the driver.
On track, i think evo is since its got constant awd whilst mps6 is only when it loses traction right?
Straight line.... similar i think....
