| | | | | | | New Mazda 3 and MPS to be released in 2010... Not sure if this is the same pic as the other thread that's posted on here (it won't load up on mine), but i'm assuming this would be close enough to the final product of the normal 3 to be released in 2010. As for the MPS, apparently it will be getting the Focus five cyclinder turbo, but only 250bhp??? No mention of AWD at this stage...
I actually like the look of the car in this pic, would be a top seller if released... 28th July 2008

Also...the article is flawed...as mazda use their own engines...DISI. (not ford duratec).
As for the 5cyl...personally I cannot see it happening as you will be paying rego and insurance for a 6 cyl vehicle in Australia.
The Auto Express is a UK mag/website and will vary from what Japan, US and Australia get in regards to Mazdas.
I personally think the MPS3 will have either the 2.3L DISI...or upgraded 2.5L DISI 4 cyl turbo myself...and I will agree that mazda will beef up the appearance to make the car more aggressive...but I dont think thats a step forward...the sleeper look (or some say BLAND) is something I adore....not some boy racer hot hatch.
Its early days yet...until I see it hit a motorshow stand with more detail....then I will be convinced...many things can change in 2 years.
Happy Motoring

As for the MPS - I doubt they will give it more power than they have in the current model. A possible reason why they have indicated a possibly switch to the 5-cyl. |

| | | Member | | | | | | | I would hazard a guess and say that they may go the Ford/Volvo cylinder purely to do with the 2.4L turbo not being around, maybe drop that same engine in the MPS 6 if it ever happens to. The duratec engines are pretty much the same, just variants.
Although I think that whole pic is a dodge photoshop and probably not showing anything in reality. |

Same angle, same colour car, same but diffeent. Mazda would never do that.

The new Mazda 3 prototype will be unveiled in the last quarter this year at one of the overseas motor shows, that should then provide a good indication of what it will look like. |

If you look at the two largest markets in Australia, in NSW it is based on the weight of the car, in Victoria it appears to be a flat rate.
As for the insurance, most insurers will ignore the number of cylinders and take the turbo into account when calculating the premium. |

| | | | | | | Maybe they have a test circuit with a camera on it (hence the same angles) lol... Just not sure why well known motoring mag would post a photoshopped pic. Anyway you're probably right, as for Mazda using their own engines, this is true in the past, doesn't mean anything about future releases. We owned a 1990 Mazda 626 and my aunty had a Ford Telstar. The only difference with the 2 were a few exterior panels. Engine and interior were exactly the same. Mazda and Ford often use similar parts, look at the bravo ute and the Ford Courier (i think its the courier), they are pretty much the same car also, with just a different badge. |
