Get a second opinion, I have seen the happen alot over the years in the trade

Drain all fuels and using diesel fuel flush lines-pump-filter-injector lines
Blead system and crank engine, let idle and listen(DO NOT REV)

See what happens you have nothing to lose only $ to save

I thought diesel and unleaded have different shaped nozzles and they are not interchangeable hence making it very difficult to insert, let alone fill it.

I really do not know how this mix up could have happen it is really not an "accident" but carelessness and lack of attention.

In my opinion the person who did this is certainly a huge risk driving on the road as well. One who cannot real labels is a very big liability on the road.

Unfortunately, in this instance, blame yourself, take some responsibility in your lack of attention and hence the consequences.

To try and find a short cut easy way out of this is impossible and only complicate things. Peeps need to take responsibility for their action.

pv hate to say this, but this is pure stupidity. Read labels, ask if not sure.

youre an idiot. im sure she is well aware that shes made a big mistake. the reason for this thread is to help said chick find a cheaper way to fix her car... you _____ and moan about the things you do to your car all the time.. so shutup

everyone here is well aware that its stupid, and have probably had a little laugh to themselves, but saying that she should just cop a $10k bill, just because you say so?

similar example,

AXLE Whitehead was rushed to hospital after suffering serious burns while mucking around with his beloved Corvette motor car.

The Home and Away pin-up, who also hosts World's Strictest Parents for Channel 7, was injured on Friday after his 1977 Corvette Stingray overheated while he was working on it in Melbourne.

According to sources, Whitehead opened the engine's radiator cap and was caught in a spray of scalding water.

He is understood to have suffered scalds to his right hand, arm, shoulder and part of his chest
.

There is no simple short cut cheepo remedy to a huge stupid mistake.
pv is a lot more careful with this sort of things like mixing fluids, not reading labels etc.

PV: "I thought diesel and unleaded have different shaped nozzles and they are not interchangeable hence making it very difficult to insert, let alone fill it."
You're absolutely correct.
Problem is the ULP filler and hose are the smallest...the filler for deisel is bigger, so you can get a small hose...ULP... into a big filler hole...deisel.
The original sizinfg was to protect unleaded vehicles with cats from mis fuelling with leaded fuel.

Problem is that it's a diesel engine. Parts aren't all that common so it might take a while and/or cost that much to get fixed.

couple of days since this post, any more news?

I say, Have the head pulled off, inspect and decide from there.

10K is lot of coin, dont waste it. Do things in steps before you commit to spending your holiday/schools fees ect

What about the warranty?

I spoke to one of our mechanics.

Whit out seeing the motor is hard to guess but the injector pump is most likely RS as are the injector lines and injectors.

These would need to be not anyway so why not replace/reco these 1st and go from there.

Eric

Thank you Eric.

I particularly missed the 1962 version. My 1973 929 coupe had that one

An extract from:
High diesel service cost warning | Review | carsguide.com.au

"Diesel contains oil that lubricates the internal parts of an engine. If misfuelled with unleaded petrol which does not have any lubrication, it can lead to engine scouring and a bill of up to $10,000. Even if the engine isn't started, the fuel system will have to be flushed and could even need replacing.
Misfuelling is estimated to cost more than 800 million a year in Britain. While no figures are available for Australia, car clubs estimate that thousands of motorists misfuel diesel cars each year.
The mistake occurs because most unleaded petrol nozzles are slightly smaller than diesel nozzles and will fit in the filler neck of a diesel vehicle. Only a few vehicles have safety features on their fuel tank filler neck to prevent using the wrong fuel."
