What are the issues when putting on aftermarket pedals? Some are direct clip ons, some are meant to be drilled on, what's the difference and what's the reason for choosing one or the other?
I seem to recall someone mentioning before that to meet a certain requirement they had to be drilled and screwed in but forgot what it was...
The clip on one that I bought from Super Cheap Auto somehow didn't fit so had to return them. Till today I haven't bought another aftermarket pedals. I prefer the drilled one but so scared of drilling the pedals since haven't got much experience yet.
I've got a set of MOMO GT pedals which are drilled on - love em compared to stock as the pedals are larger than stock and therefore easier to depress with less effort.
Clip ons have a high rate of loosening over time and can become hazardous especially when wet. Drilling negates that problem altogether (though it's still wise to check the nuts every 5K or so).
Hey Zheng,
I got the cheapo supercheap auto pedals was around 30 bucks.
The bracket for them to be clipped on don't fit our 3's too well, so i just drilled them into the pedal. very easy and 2 minute job.

Help me to drill mine then when I get Mazdaspeed pedal....
The pedals must have a certain amount of rubber to be deemed legal
They must also be secure and not loose at any point
Otherwise you will have trouble with defects etc
Difference in clip on and the one requiring holes
Clip on on ones are usually less reliable and will get you into more trouble
Screw in ones etc will cost more to install by pro etc
on what RED mentioned above, with clip-ons you have the ease and luxury of simply taking it off prior to RTA inspection if needed, then just reclipping it back on post evaluation. oh, and I think the pedals need to be spaced apart to certain specs for legality too....annoying.
i have the supercheap ones.. they come witha bracket with 5 bolts. very secure..as mentioned before though its a tight fit on the clutch.. and even when i cut the bolts short. it still rubs on the mat a bit.
as for slippery when wet ive had no problem.. in fact these pedals feel safer with the rubber strips then the stockos do. plus they only cost me 10 bucks and look alot better :P

I have the supercheap ones too. I agree, during the wet it works fine thanks to the rubber =)
Ive got Razo pedals on mine and its really secured with no drilling required. It basically has 3 metal straps that hugs ur factory pedals from behind.
Once tightened, its pretty secured. Accelerator is nice and long and a good space between the brakes for your heel-toe action. Not that i know how to do that but meh...
Fair enough. I'm actually still in search (loosely) for a footrest pedal that goes well with my momo pedals which is a pain to find. I find the footrest area the dirtiest spot everytime I vacuum it..
