I've got the very last of the 2007 luxury sports hatches and love it far more than the current model equivalent.
Rob.
Jinke has one too, and it was surprising how good it was. back in 05 after having driven a Honda accord Euro luxury, i went into a mazda dealership and had a look at the 6. in comparison, the 6 just looked and felt so cheap. but then again it was only the base model classic. After being in jinke's LSH i realise how good the top spec 6's were.

The eldest's girlfriends mum has a luxury one, all the bells and whistles. It's a light grey looking thing. Had a ride in it and to be honest it didn't do anything for me. It was the car I'd always wanted but it was just..........a car. Nothing more nothing less. Friends have the same car in black and it kicks butt. They've put nice wheels on it and it really looks and feels special. He got it for a few thou written off. He's a panel beater who does them up to sell on. About 10 yrs ago he did up a VT ex cop commodore and his wife wouldn't give it up. Last yr he did the 6 up for her and she loves it. So do I.
I really like the old ones better than the new ones. Just as I like the old 3's better than the new ones.

The old 6 for sure! I've got a 2002 GG Classic, and love it! The new 6 lacks the sporty look, getting the same kind of feel as an accord euro (nice but not as sporty as the old 6) or .... dare I say it, the Aurion. No upgrade for me! Is this going to be like the old 3.... great model, not so great, great, not so great, great, and now the new model not so great....

lol you think the Aurion is sporty? :-P i'd have to disagree..
But i do agree with you that the new 6 looks slightly less sportier than the old. But i think the general direction mazda are trying to take with it is to make it more upmarket/luxury. It does look good though.
I'm on my 2nd GG series 6 - 1st one (02 Clasic auto hatch) the son wrote off in 2008 . Bought another Clasic - was going to wait a couple of months & put up the exta cash to get the update but saw some photos at the local Mazda dealer and changed my mind. Also looked very closely at the Ford Mondeo - nice car but a bit underpowered with the Ford version of the Mazda 2.3, although apparently they have the 2.5 in them in Europe. Checked out an Accord Euro as well - overrated in base form - enjoy changing gears but you have to work them too hard to get similar performance to the 6 (even though they have a larger, more powerful motor). Glad I stuck with the GG series 6
I drove the whole range (bar the TRD) and to be honest sporty is the last thing I'd call it.
Its funny, it has a fantastic engine, but it just lacks any excitement or feel that you would get in a Mazda.
Anyway.
I prefer the new 6 - however there is one thing I don't like on both models. That bit of plastic on the C-pillar for the previous model hatchback, and the bit of plastic which is now on the sedan instead. It looks cheap and unfinished.
Look at something like the Holden Cruze for a horrific example.
I prefer the look of the new ones, but then I've got one.
The old one has aged well it is still a good looking car.
My main preference was the interior in the new one seemed less 'cluttered'.
The style of the new model seems to governed by aerodynamics with a cd of 26 it is one of the most aerodynamic production cars in the world,
supposedly the result of 300 hours of wind tunnel testing.
But the 6 does seem to make every other medium car look boring or ugly.

I second that. The current (GH) series 1 looks pretty good. Almost an Audi-esque quality to it. From the look of the pictures, the GH series 2 have 'copied' Audi A4/A5's front diffuser/bumber styling.
Mazda 6 = Poor man's Audi A5 sportback.
the only let down (IMHO) is the C-piller/ rear 3-qtr view and the allow wheels. They need to hire the guy/gal who designed BMW allow wheels.
I would have thought Citroen are the world's most aerodynamic car. You learnt something new everyday.
I bought mine primarily because it has an awesome interior, not all that much different to the old model, but theres just something about it that I like better.
Exterior, the only thing it has 'sticking out' from the panels is the water nozzle for the rear window - everything else (windscreen washers, antenna) doesn't stick their ugly head outs through panels.
At a closer looks at the alloys on the Classic's, they'd be the first thing I would replace, however I don't mind the ones on mine.
The C-Pillar rear window, yet another reason I chose the hatch over sedan...
The car would be so much better if they standardised the accessories and left actual upgrades (like better engines etc) for the difference between models etc
